Atmosphere: Elegant Club Atmosphere at Bubenbergplatz
Myle is located right at Bubenbergplatz, just a few steps from Bern’s main train station. It succeeds the former Manora and later Desperados – and has established itself with an entirely new concept.
The interior is modern and elegant: black leather bench seats, wooden tables, stylish lamps. The atmosphere recalls an upscale club. There is also a terrace for outdoor seating in good weather.
The tables are elegantly set – one small detail stood out: a stain on the serving plate. Nothing dramatic, but at this price point it’s noticeable. The clientele is upscale, the mood pleasantly refined.
The Kitchen: Cuisine Voyage
Myle follows a “Cuisine Voyage” concept – the menu changes regularly and travels the world. Chef Markus Arnold (formerly of Steinhalle Bern) is behind this culinary journey. We visited Myle for the Business Lunch (Thursday and Friday, 2 courses for CHF 59). In the evening, the Cuisine Voyage menu is served as a multi-course experience starting at CHF 169. Parts of it can also be ordered à la carte.
Bread with Salted Butter
The meal began with sourdough bread and salted butter. The bread had a wonderfully fresh flavor, and the salted butter added an elegant touch – a perfect pairing.
Starter: Salad with Oven Vegetables and Black Forest Ham
The starter was a fresh salad with oven-baked vegetables and Black Forest ham. The salad came with a light dressing; the carrots and zucchini from the oven were soft and aromatic. The Black Forest ham had the typical smoky flavor with a subtle resin note. Overall successful – one small criticism: the salad dressing dripped onto the ham, which was plated separately. I would have preferred the ham simply placed on top of the salad.
Main Course: Potato Gnocchi with Spinach, Fresh Morels, and Taleggio Foam
The main course was homemade potato gnocchi with spinach, fresh morels, and a Taleggio foam. The morels had the delicate aroma of fresh specimens – more subtle than dried ones, but wonderfully flavorful. The savory Taleggio foam perfectly elevated the other delicately flavored ingredients.
Dessert: Praline with Coffee
To finish, I treated myself to a high-quality praline, lovingly brought to the table in a small box. Served with coffee – a successful, elegant conclusion.
Service
The service at Myle uses the informal “du” form with guests and is consistently friendly. The staff described the dishes well. One minor hiccup: there was a technical issue when taking the order at the beginning, so we had to repeat it. The staff handled it professionally – better to ask again than to bring the wrong dish.
