Visit to El Mexicano in Bern
El Mexicano in Bern is located on the 1st floor. After climbing the stairs, you reach the restaurant entrance. The restaurant presents itself with simple Mexican decor. It has quite a lot of tables. Along the walls there are some booth seats. El Mexicano also features a winter garden.
Over a beer, El Presidente from the bottle, we placed our order. I went for the Enchiladas con Pollo, chicken-filled tortillas topped with cheese. My table companions chose the weekly special, an entrecôte with pan-fried potatoes, including salad and dessert.
The enchiladas came on a wooden board in a cast-iron skillet, together with refried beans, a taco shell with salad, and a corn on the cob. The filling was like pulled chicken. The flavor was quite good, though the texture was a bit unusual. Unfortunately, the filling wasn’t hot in my opinion.
I got to try a bit of the entrecôte and the dessert from the weekly special from my dining companion. Both were well prepared – especially the profiteroles.
We drank Mexican wine with our meal, which was similar in grape composition to a Bordeaux. Afterwards we tried the Barolo, which was very enjoyable.
